Congratulations to the seven finalists whose persuasive essays helped choose the charity for this year's Student-Faculty Basketball Game. All were well-written and very effective. The decision was a tough one, and the voting was close. All of the students and faculty of JMS were able to vote for the most persuasive argument.
- Marti Weisberg wrote for Susan G. Komen for the Cure
- Harper Davies for Hope for Ghana.
- Izzie Dowiak wrote for Hope for Ukraine.
- Sophia Fabyonic wrote for Save the Children.
- Finn Geisler wrote for 412 Food Rescue.
- Zarina Azzam wrote for Doctors Without Borders.
- Lucy Sussman wrote for Greenpeace.
Congratulations, Lucy Sussman! The money from the 2023 Student-Faculty Basketball Game will go to Greenpeace! According to Lucy’s paper, “supporting Greenpeace is one way to lower the amount of plastic in the ocean as it protects oceans, works to end deforestation, and strives to cease climate change.”
Jefferson Middle School will donate the proceeds from the Student-Faculty Basketball Game to Greenpeace because as Lucy wrote, “Greenpeace is able to assist all areas relating to saving the Earth.” Thanks to Lucy’s paper, we will help them do just that!
Lucy received two complimentary tickets to the game and was recognized at halftime for her outstanding work.
