JMS Students Achieve High Honors at Academic Competitions

Congratulations to the Jefferson Middle School Odyssey of the Mind team for winning second place at the regional competition and advancing to the state level. Team members include seventh grader Sonny Dunlap and sixth graders Chase Lavy, Vaishu Prassanna, Joel Ramachandran, Sirus Ranney, and Judah Rogers.

Twenty-five teams from Mt. Lebanon competed in the Western PA Odyssey of the Mind tournament alongside hundreds of other teams from around the region. Good luck at the state competition!

Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving program where team members present their solutions at a competition to a predefined long-term problem that takes many months to complete and involves writing, design, construction, and a theatrical performance.

Thank you to parents Jasmine James and Mindy Ranney for coaching the team!

Congratulations to JMS students for receiving honorable mentions in the recent 2024 Shakespeare Monologue and Scene Contest!  Eighth-grader Marti Weisberg was awarded an honorable mention and eighth-graders Cadence Pratt and Claire Raff were awarded an honorable mention in the upper scene group.  There were over 750 students who participated this year - so kudos to the JMS group! Other JMS participants included Michael Fair, Harper Davies, Lucy Moon, Alaina Raff, Claira McElroy, and Katya Rowley. Students also had a workshop with a professional actor and spent many hours practicing for the competition.

If you would like to participate in the Shakespeare Monologue and Scene Contest next year, look for the announcement in the fall or contact Mrs. Duchin.
